Jim Brey



James Dennis Brey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, in Oregon City, Oregon, at the age of 81. Born on October 18, 1943, in Pender, Nebraska, to John and Geraldine (Baker) Brey, Jim lived a life full of love, service, and devotion.


Jim is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Hannelore, along with his children, James (Teresa) Brey, Ursela (Jeree) Jones, John (Janis) Brey, and David Brey. He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Karissa (Bob) Spilotro, Taylor Brey, Ryan Brey, Braden (fiancée Danielle) Brey, David Wagerman, Darby Brey, and Logan Brey, and a cherished great-grandfather to Peyton Brey, Haley Brey, and Carmela Spilotro. He also leaves behind his brothers, Jack (Linda) Brey and Tony (Terri) Brey, along with numerous extended family members and friends.


A proud Navy veteran, Jim served his country with honor and dedication. His sense of duty and service extended far beyond his military years, reflecting his strong commitment to both his family and community. As a devout Catholic, Jim was deeply involved in the Liturgical and Prison Ministries at St. John the Apostle Church in Oregon City for many years, where he found great fulfillment in supporting others.


Jim had a lifelong passion for genealogy, tracing his family's roots and connecting with their rich history. His love for learning was a constant throughout his life, and he found joy in sharing his discoveries with those he loved.


Professionally, Jim was an IT Security Consultant, traveling extensively across the United States and internationally to support organizations with their cybersecurity needs. Earlier in his life, Jim also served as a part-time Deputy Sheriff for Grays Harbor County, Washington. His brief appearance as a sheriff in the final scene of the John Wayne movie McQ was a cherished memory and a testament to his diverse experiences.


Above all, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his deep faith, and his commitment to service. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and passion for learning will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
